About me
My name is Tessa van Leeuwen and I am a cognitive neuroscientist specialized in individual differences in subjective experience, for instance the phenomenon of synaesthesia. Synaesthesia is the mixing of the senses, in which e.g., letters elicit a colour or music evokes taste. I study synaesthesia’s relation with perceptual abilities, autism, and other phenomena in which subjective experience is altered, such as aphantasia or hyperphantasia, and sensory processing sensitivity.

I am an Associate Professor at the Department of Communication and Cognition, Tilburg University, the Netherlands (profile) and a guest researcher at the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, Nijmegen, the Netherlands (my Donders page).
